Royals M. Bantam AA - 2016-17 Founders Cup Champions

April 18, 2017

Our “Toronto Royals Minor Bantam AA” had a great season this year. We fought hard all season long to earn a spot into the play-offs and were able to upset the Toronto Eagles in the first round to advance into the round of 8. Unfortunately, our next apponents were the Kraft Cup champion Mississauga Terriers. After a hard fought series where we outshot the Terriers we ended up losing the series and making our way into the Founder’s Cup. We faced some of the top teams from both the East and West and went undefeated through the Round Robin stage to earn 1st place and a “buy” into the semifinal. In the semis we faced another of our long time rivals, the Mississauga Jets and managed to land on the right side of a 2-1 victory to earn a spot in the Founder’s Cup championship final. In the final we faced the Toronto Eagles once again who were seeking retribution for us having upset them in the play-off as well as having beaten them in the final of another season tournament. After 40 gruelling minutes of hockey this Sunday, the earned the right to hoist the Founder’s Cup at ScotiaPond with a 2-0 victory. This marks our second Founder’s Cup in 5 seasons to go along with our Kraft Cup and West Championship. The boys, coaches, parents and I would like to thank the both of you for all of your help and support this season. I know we don’t make your jobs easy, but hopefully we help make it worth while ;o).

2015 - Royals Bantam A win the Florida JR Panthers Annual Thanksgiving Tournament

December 2, 2015

The Toronto Royals Bantam A team travelled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 25th, 2015 to participate in the Florida JR Panthers Annual Thanksgiving Tournament. Along with the tournament the boys and families were able to enjoy the beach, sun and an NHL Florida Panthers game where 8 of our players joined the Florida Panthers on the ice for a pre-game skate and the national anthem.

Back at the tournament the Royals earned themselves a berth in the semifinals where they faced the “Kalamazoo K Wings” of Michigan. The two closely matched teams battled through nearly three full periods of hockey in a scoreless tie when the Royals finally scored with only 29 seconds left in regulation time to win the game 1-0.

The Championship final game was against the tournament host, Florida JR Panthers. The two teams traded goals with each other throughout the game, but the Toronto Royals proved to be the stronger team winning over the home town team with a final score of 3-2 and taking home the Championship title!

Way to go Royals!

March 2014 - Ryan Da Silvia Memorial Midget Goaltender Award

The Ryan Da Silva Memorial Midget Goaltender Award was presented to Michael Errico by the Toronto Royals Minor Hockey Club on the evening of Thursday March 7th during a ceremony that was held at Westwood Arenas. The award was established to honour the memory of Ryan Da Silva who played as a goaltender on the club’s 2006/07 Midget ‘AA’ Senior team. Ryan was a beloved member of this team who played the game with intensity and enthusiasm while demonstrating dedication, leadership and a positive “never quit” winning attitude. Sadly, Ryan’s young life was cut short on March 29, 2011 when he succumbed to injuries suffered after a tragic accident.

Michael Errico is a goaltender with the Toronto Royals Minor Midget ‘AA’ team during the 2013/14 hockey season, and was deemed to have best exemplified the tremendous qualities that Ryan demonstrated throughout the 2006/07 season while playing as a member of the club’s Midget ‘AA’ Senior team.
